How to check if your website is ready for AI search

Updated · 2 min read

Before an AI assistant can recommend your business, it has to be able to read your website and understand what you do and where. Many sites fail at the first step without the owner knowing.

This guide walks through the checks that matter, what each result means, and how to fix problems. You can run all of them at once with our free AI readiness checker.

Step 1: Run the check

Open the AI readiness checker, enter your website address and, ideally, your city. You'll get a score out of 100 and a list of checks, with the ones to fix first at the top.

Step 2: Understand the results

  • AI answer engines can read the site (20 points): whether robots.txt lets ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Claude search read your pages. This is the most important check.
  • Business structured data (15): whether your homepage tells machines your business type, address and hours.
  • Readable text (10): whether your content is in the page HTML. If it only appears after JavaScript runs, many AI crawlers see an empty page.
  • Page title and description (10): your page's name and summary in search and AI results.
  • Questions and answers (10): whether you have an FAQ, ideally with FAQ structured data.
  • Location is clear (5): whether your homepage names your city or service area.
  • Sitemap, social preview, HTTPS and llms.txt: smaller signals that help crawlers and sharing.

Step 3: Fix the biggest problems first

  1. Crawler access blocked? Use the AI robots.txt generator, and check your hosting or security plugin for “block AI bots” settings.
  2. No business structured data? Create it with the local business schema generator.
  3. No FAQ? Write one from real customer questions and add FAQ schema.
  4. Almost no readable text? Ask your web developer whether the site is server-rendered, and add plain text about your services and location to the homepage.

Then run the checker again to confirm your score went up.

Step 4: Check whether AI actually recommends you

A high readiness score means AI can read and understand your site. Whether it *recommends* you also depends on reviews, listings and what other sites say. The free Eudoxia check asks AI assistants real customer questions and shows who they recommend.

Questions

What's a good AI readiness score?

Aim for 75 or more. Below 45 usually means something important is blocked or missing, such as crawler access or business structured data.

How often should I check?

After any website change, redesign, new plugin or hosting move, and otherwise every few months. Security plugins and hosting updates sometimes start blocking AI crawlers without warning.
