The business listings AI assistants rely on
Updated · 2 min read
When an AI assistant recommends a local business, it rarely relies on your website alone. It reads map listings, directories and review sites to confirm who you are, where you are and what people think of you. Incomplete or inconsistent listings make AI less confident about recommending you.
The core listings
- Google Business Profile: the most important listing for Google Search, Google Maps and Gemini.
- Bing Places for Business: Bing's index is used by Microsoft Copilot and has been used by other AI search tools. It's often overlooked, and you can import your Google profile.
- Apple Business Connect: controls how you appear in Apple Maps, Siri and Apple's services.
- Industry and review sites: for example Yelp and Tripadvisor, plus the main directories for your profession and country.
Keep your details identical everywhere
Use exactly the same business name, address and phone number (often called NAP) on every listing and on your website. Small differences, like “St” vs “Street” or an old phone number, make it harder for AI to be sure all the listings are the same business.
Also match your opening hours, website address, business category and service areas.
Find out which sources AI uses for your category
The sources that matter differ by industry and country. Your Eudoxia report lists the websites AI assistants relied on when answering questions about your type of business in your city, so you know exactly where to be listed.
Connect listings to your website
Add links to your main profiles in the “sameAs” field of your LocalBusiness structured data (schema generator). This tells machines they all belong to the same business.
Questions
Do I need to be on every directory?
No. Focus on the core listings above and the few directories that matter most for your industry and country. Quality and consistency beat quantity.
How often should I update listings?
Whenever something changes (hours, phone, address, services), and check them every few months. Holiday hours are a common thing to forget.
